As for chemical industries, we also have cutting–edge production of Unsaturated Polyester Resins and Alkyd resins for industrial and architectural coatings manufacture, suitable for an extensive range of paint products

2000’s

Widening the Scope

In 2002, MIDO achieved a significant milestone by purchasing a reactor; a specialized machine used in the manufacture of resins, which were imported at the time. The reactor’s output was used in the manufacture of 40-45% of wood and household coating products. In 2003, Shortly after the announcement of MIDO successfully going public on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and becoming a leading stock Egyptian company, MIDO Coatings underwent significant changes and was rebranded as “The International Group for Modern Coatings”. 2004 marked the 25th anniversary of the company and the best was yet to come! 2005 saw the inauguration of a new factory in pursuit of horizontal integration called Endmoun, aimed at producing Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR). Considered the first factory of its kind in Egypt & North Africa, its total capacity was intended for polyester Putty, Polyester Sealer & Marble adhesive. In 2006, the company bared great losses due to a fire that erupted in the mail warehouse, which was shortly overcome through a complete restructure. 2008 witnessed expansion into China, Tunisia, and Mozambique, in addition to introducing fresh products to the local market such as Universal color concentrates & Gravito for exterior house painting. Between 2008 and 2011 the company witnessed unprecedented expansion locally and internationally.

1990’s

Diversification

MIDO always seeks to fill the gap in the product lineup to cater to the needs of a wider range of clients. Thus, Pexin (Polyester Putty) was born! Shortly after, resins was born as the backbone of many paint products. The company ended up introducing the NC / Acrylic 2 k paint system to the Egyptian market, as well as more specialized products for other market segments. By 1997 MIDO started expanding into new foreign markets in Kuwait and Yemen, paving the way for entry into in Africa and the Middle East (Libya - Iraq - K.S.A - Ethiopia - Madagascar - Benin - Lebanon - Syria - Jordan - Angola - Palestine - South Africa - Qatar - Ghana - Nigeria - U.A.E - Morocco - Mozambique - Senegal - Sudan - Togo - Somalia - China – Turkey - Kenya - Mayotte - Mauritius - Algeria – Tunisia, and Malawi)

Challenging the Odds

Shortly after being founded, an accidental fire erupted in 1981, causing the destruction of most of the factory’s infrastructure. However, with a lot of willpower and passion for what we do, we declared “no time to waste” and re-built. By 1988, MIDO expanded into one of the most promising industrial communities establishing its new plant in New Borg El-Arab City and widening its product range to include the automotive refinish market with the production of unsaturated polyester putty.

Inauguration

Founded by Dr. Ali Ghaly in Alexandria, Egypt, as a family-run limited-partnership company in 1979, MIDO’s road to success started with the identification of a highly demanded product at the time, followed by the incorporation of a startup 3x4 m2 factory that focused on the production of a single – yet essential – product; Polish!
